/Cancer PR News/ - LOS ANGELES, CA, July 26, 2008 - My First Shades will donate children's sunglasses to benefit the Elixir Fund's Fifth Annual Live and Silent Auction. The Elixir Fund was established to honor the life and spirit of Kevin McQuarrie, with whom Executive Vice President of My First Shades, Lisa Medora, attended high school. The fund is, therefore, very close to My First Shades' heart, and they are happy to be able to participate. The event will occur Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, CA and will be hosted by Last Comic Standing and California's Funniest Female 2008, Lang Parker. Entertainment will be provided by magicians Jeb Whitlock and Gerry Schiller.

The Elixir Fund is a nonprofit organization founded in tribute to the spirit in which Kevin McQuarrie faced his two years of continued cancer treatment, and the love with which he approached life. The Elixir Fund works with hospitals across the nation to provide amenities and develop programs for improved patient comfort, so that these patients, too, can carry on life and face their treatment with the same courage and spirit with which Kevin faced his.

Elixir's debut project with the Todd Cancer Institute at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and Miller Children's Hospital is currently in its fourth year. They have set up such events there as Mini-Makeover Days where patients can be treated to manicures, makeup, massages, and hairstyling by volunteers. They have also provided patients with donated portable DVD players, DVDs and CDS, through their Movie and Music Program. Elixir is now working to donate photography for the treatment rooms and redecorate the women's changing room in radiation/oncology.

The Elixir Fund has also worked closely with The Cancer Institute of New Jersey to establish similar programs, and will be holding another Live and Silent Auction in New Jersey later this year. The Fund is currently looking forward to expanding its work to additional hospitals. For more information about the Elixir Fund or tickets to the upcoming events, please visit www.elixirfund.org.
